Nayu's thoughts
This
book, along with another from the same publisher caught my eye-look
at the cover-Billy is adorable! I love the illustration style which
changes slightly when Billy plans what he needs to do (he looks as though he is drawn in ink and crayon rather than watercolour).
I felt sorry for him because he
thinks he needs exclusive items to get Polly's attention, but he
learns that she likes him for who he is and what he can do rather
than what he can't get. That message of how friendship should be is
something we all need reinforcing from time to time. I liked the
range of insects seen (thankfully no wiggly ones), the feel of the
story is fresh (I use that word sparingly but in this case it's
necessary), there is scope for this to become a series (if it isn't
already), one that readers will enjoy many rereads!
Suggested read
Another book with a similar feel is about a cute pixie: Posie Pixie and The Pancakes by Sarah Hill and Sarah Mauchline (Children's, 5 years +, 10E/10E, short 'n' sweet review)
