Win a copy of The Children of the Lost by David Whitely ends 5th August UK only

The lovely people at Puffin are offering one lucky reader a chance to win a copy of The Children of the Lost by David Whitely, which will be published on 5th August 2010. The first book,

Midnight Charter, is on my current TBR pile (and both should be read and reviewed before the competition ends)

Here's the summary from Puffin

MARK AND LILY HAVE BEEN BANISHED from Agora, the ancient city-state where everything is for sale - memories, emotions - even children.
Lost and alone they discover Giseth, a seemingly perfect land where everyone is equal, possessions are unknown, and Lily believes they will find the secret of their entwined destiny.
But paradise comes at a price. Why are their new friends so scared? What hides deep in the forest? And who is the mysterious woman who appears in their dreams, urging them to find the Children of the Lost?

The Prize: One copy of The Children of the Lost

To Enter: Write a comment below explaining something special that you have lost at some point in your life. Please leave a contact email address, putting it like this so spammers are less likely to target you (I still can't figure out how to produce a form!) nayu(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk

Rules: If you are under 18 years of age, you may enter if you get a parent or guardian's permission to enter. This helps keep everyone safe. UK entrants only please.

When I was young, I had a puppy who died... I was devastated!!! I was inconsolable!! I think that was my first profound lesson about adulthood. (lol)

When I was little I packed my favourite doll for holidays, but when we arrived she was missing. I was devastated. We couldn't work out where she was! When we got home, my Dad unlocked the door, and she was lying in the hall.
I'd forgotten about that until now! awwwww

When I was around 11, I *borrowed* the ring my dad had first ever bought my Mum, back when she was still at school and with his first ever wage. they were childhood sweethearts (and still together and married now) i wanted it for a school disco. Well, you know what happened I'm sure. I still feel bad now 20 years later. I was forgiven....eventually. (rhiana-reads at live dot com )

I was hot and tired, rushing around buying stuff for a family party I was catering and organising when I noticed that my neckchain had dissappeared. It held the two pendants: one was my only inheritance from my grandmother and the other was the the first present my father gave me.
Only about an hour later when I sat down to relax did I realised how upset I was and I burst into tears.

Hm, I actually just realised that I don't have many sentimental items that I've lost. But I had a couple of pictures of my grandparents whom I'd never actually met-I don't know when and how I lost them, but I did feel really sad about it.

Cherry - losing a pet is a very big loss. Thanks for the tip - I'm in the process of learning how to create a googledoc form.

Piperty - Oh no! I did a similar thing going on holiday with my favourite teddy bear. I was distraught (we did buy another on holiday).

Rhiana - LOL! That isn't a good loss. I did a similar thing, but thankfully the lost object was found again a few weeks later.

EVA SB: I really feel for you. I lost a necklace once (not as high in sentimental value as you) but it was upsetting.

Kaya - losing pictures is sad too.

I once lost my favourite necklace during a ballet class. The pendant was made of diamonds in the shape of a star which was not easy to find at the time. My Mom and I looked in every jewelry store we passed for two years before she suprised me with a new one on my birthday one year. It's my new favourite necklace now.

I have half a dozen piercings in each ear, but my favourite is a lizard crawling up my left ear. The original lizard got lost in a nightclub nearly 10years ago and I was so upset that now every time I see something similar I buy a pair - I've lost a few more sneaky lizards since, and currently have one in and one spare!

When I was little my dad got me a bag for my birthday with a pocket on the front with a rag doll in. I didn't live with my dad and didn't see him all that often so this was especially precious to me. For my birthday treat my mum took me to the seaside. Walking back to the car I realised the doll wasn't in her pocket. We retraced our steps but never found her, I was very upset. I rarely take anything of sentimental value out of the house these days, I get too upset when I lose things.
