I havn't read this genre for a while, and the reasons why I love it came flooding back. I love all the space travel which in this case didnt really use space ships. I enjoyed the different species, learning how their differences to more humanoid species provided Quin with an advantage when times were tough. Discovering the kind of person Quin is was an enjoyable & often surprising journey. She is absolutely hilarious, she doesn't take no for an answer, she'll fight for what she believes in and sacrifice everything for those she cares about. Her powers are phenomenal - you seriously do not want to annoy her. And the ending is very good. Although I had a theory on how it happened, it didn't pan out yet I still loved it & will just have to save the theory for one of my own wips. (What? Reading is fuel for my Muse). This is a 10/10 read.

For a story involving island hopping, kidnapping & a strong minded heroine try the Crystal Singer trilogy by Anne McCaffrey. I've read it many times, and hope to re-read and review it here on NRC in the future.
