Dork Diaries Once Upon A Dork by Rachel Renee Russell and Nikki Russell (Children's, 9 years +, 10E/10E, semi short 'n' sweet review)

2014, Simon and Schuster, 320 pages, Paperback, Review copy

Content: tween romance, humour at every sentence

Summary from Simon and Schuster
The Queen of the Dorks is back in a brand new instalment of the internationally bestselling series, now with 13 million copies in print worldwide!

After a bump on the head, Nikki has a wild dream in which she, her BFF's Chloe and Zoey, her crush Brandon, and mean girl Mackenzie all end up playing the roles of some familiar classic fairy tale characters. Will Nikki's dream turn into a nightmare?

Nayu's thoughts
This is the best Dork Diaries book ever! I mean that. I enjoyed the alternate fairytale reality, which is a little crazy, but was rather magical and in some way better than Nikki's usual school life because there were extraordinary events going on. That & I adore fairytales ^o^

As ever the illustrations add so much more to the story. I like the outfits in the alternate universe, and was a little sad when Nikki returned to reality, but I was secretly pleased too because normal is a good thing. Mackenzie continues to be awful in both realities, but thankfully Nikki's friends help turn awful situations around, and the end is a happy one. Briana is absolutely brilliant in the alternate reality! She rivals Nikki in being my favourite character.
