Blog Tour Review, Guest Blog Post & Competition: Action Kids’ Club #1 by Lydia Howe (Children’s, 9 years +, 9/10E, semi short 'n' sweet review)

2nd November 2014, distributed by Amazon, 59 pages, Ebook, Review copy

Themes: friendship, moving house, gaining confidence

Book summary
Twelve-year-old Olivia Hall’s dream of a friends' club ends when she finds out her family is moving.

Her parents assure her it's a good thing, opening a new world of possibilities for the Halls. But going from ‘miss popular’ to ‘the new girl’ won’t be easy, and Olivia is not convinced.

Soon she begins to realize that although her life has suddenly changed, there's plenty of adventure to keep her on her toes. From making new friends at Forward Focus, to hanging out at the world-renowned Kids Zone, to meeting the curious head chef, she discovers that there's much
more to life - and her new surroundings - than she ever imagined. How will she make the most of these new opportunities? Or will she let them slip away?

Nayu's thoughts
This is a fun start to new series about a club for children. The story is a sweet one, leaving me wanting to get to know Olivia and her friends even more. My copy had full colour illustrations which somehow add that something extra which black and white illustrations don't have (not that they are bad, they just aren't colour). I think this will make it more appealing to some readers, and have them wanting to think about who they are seeing on the page. I like the fact that the book encourages readers to try different things, that hobbies and friendship can be what we all need in this crazy life.

Books! Welcome to the 10th stop of the blog tour celebrating the release of Action Kids' Club where we get to talk all about books!!! Read yesterday’s post at this blog and find out more about Action Kids by clicking here.

The answer to yesterday's puzzle is: I can accept failures, everyone fails at something... but I can’t accept not trying. -Michael Jordan

Books! They’re kinda like candy, except they last longer and you can read them and still share them with others (it would be gross to share candy you’d already sucked on...). Plus they can be healthy. Like candy, books keep me awake at night, make me crave more, can be used as wonderful treats and make me lose my appetite when I’m in the middle of a good one.

I read a lot of books. Between January and October of this year I read over 80 books. I know that most people are way too busy to read that much (oh, the joy of being an author and having reading be part of the job description!), bit everyone can snatch a little bit of time for reading. Therefore I thought I’d share some books with y’all that I’ve found to be very helpful.

Note: Most of these books are for ages 15+ because of their readability, although I think the principles are wonderful for all ages, which, of course, is why I’m writing the Action Kids series, using principles I gathered from these books.

The Book of Proverbs - The Word of God

Just in case you don’t see the importance of reading, I thought I’d share a few quote with you by well-known people who advocate reading.

You’re the same today as you’ll be in five years except for the people you meet and the books you read.” -Charlie “Tremendous” Jones

When you sell a man a book you don’t sell him just 12 ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life.” -Christopher Morley

The more you read, the more things you will know. The more things you learn, the more places you’ll go.” -Dr. Seuss

Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” -Harry S. Truman

There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” -Jacqueline Kennedy

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read.” -Mark Twain

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” - Richard Steele

And to top it all off, I’m going to be giving away a copy of The Butterfly Effect by Andy Andrews! (Sorry but the giveaway is only open to USA addresses!) It’s a really amazing book and I can’t wait to get it into your hands! Seriously, it’s life-changing and beautiful!

And here’s your quote riddle for today. Figure it out and leave the answer in the comments section and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a great prize! And, check out my blog to find out about the $50 gift card I’m giving away!
