Clementine Rose and the Pet Day Disaster by Jacqueline Harvey (Children's, 7 years +, 10E/10E)

August 2013, Red Fox, 160 pages, Paperback, Review copy

Clementine Rose is so excited to be going to school for the first time! Especially when her new teacher tells her about the Pet Day coming up soon. But will Clementine Rose be allowed to bring her teacup pig Lavender into school - and could the two of them even win a prize?

Nayuleska's thoughts
The cute Clementine has heaps of fun in her second adventure. It's sweet how excited she is to take Lavender, her tea cup pig in for the pet day competition, and even sweeter how her aunt warms a little to Clementine, as her actions clearly show (even though she'd rather not admit it).

I think the pet day itself works well as it introduces readers to how competitions work, there was the excitement of a very special guest visiting (which again Clementine's aunt would rather not admit she cared about seeing the VIP). I think it's really sweet that one character whose name has slipped my mind (I am writing this review for the second time after I had to reset my tablet...) makes so many clothes for Clementine - the illustrations provide the reader a glimpse of an outfit or two which are as sweet as they are described.
