Molly Mischief: My Perfect Pet by Adam Hargreaves (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E)

3rd August 2017, Pavillion Children's, 32 pages, Paperback, Review copy

Book summary
Trouble, impishness and fun abound in the Molly Mischief series. In this first book Molly wants a pet, a big pet. But Molly being Molly, mischief is never far away! Molly decides that an elephant would be her perfect pet so she brings one home from the wildlife park... but it's a bit too big for her house... the tiger is too fierce... the giraffe too tall... and the polar bear gets too hot. Will Molly ever find the perfect pet?

Nayu's thoughts
As the cover indicates it's Molly's naughty streak which caught my interest-the cheeky expression makes me giggle and wonder just how much chaos she will cause in her pet search. I knew it would be a lot, but I underestimated how much damage she causes to her family and neighbors! Yet she still carries on, determined to find the large pet for her, rather than sticking with her pet mouse. The end wasn't a surprise, but I enjoyed it all the same and am eager to see what she does next!

The bright colours match with the story's atmosphere, as Molly has a strong personality. I loved how almost all the animals she tests out have a toy form in her bedroom, it's a nice touch and hints that she may just have imagined trying the crazy animals ot as pets. Definitely one for those wanting a pet but needing to learn what animal you can cope with isn't always the best pet for them.

Another tale about a girl with a love of unusual animals can be found in How To Hide A Lion At School by Helen Stephens (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E, short 'n' sweet review)
