Specs For Rex by Yasmeen Ismail (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E, short 'n' sweet review)

August 2014, Bloomsbury, 32 pages, Hardback, Review copy

Summary from Bloomsbury
Rex has new glasses and he HATES them! He does NOT want to wear them to school, and he tries to hide them – in the strangest places! But it's pretty tricky hiding specs that are so big, and round and RED . . .

It's funny how things turn out, though, because Rex's specs end up winning him a gold star, and a new friend. Even better, he can SEE properly. - See more at: http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/specs-for-rex-9781408836972/#sthash.F1AuXnuN.dpuf

Nayu's thoughts
These days wearing glasses is seen more as a part of fashion, but it can take users of all ages time to get used to them. Like Rex I had to wear glasses when I was little, super thick ones (thankfully technology makes thinner lenses now & there's such a thing called contact lenses). I didn't go to the lengths that he went to hide them, since I had to wear mine all the time, but I could have done with a story like his to help me see the positive side of wearing them when I got bullied. A must read for all children, both glasses wearers & non glasses wearers alike to understand the insecurity those wearing glasses go through.
