Fallen In Love by Lauren Kate (Young Adult, 9/10)

February 2012, Doubleday
250 pages, Hardback
Review copy

Themes: medieval traditions, Valentine's day, different types of love, friendship, trusting each other, betrayal, getting told off, trying not to alter history, medieval costumes, some humour and heartbreak, teen romance ( moderate)

Unexpected. Unrequited. Forbidden. Eternal. Everyone has their own love story.

And in a twist of fate, four extraordinary love stories combine over the course of a romantic Valentine's Day in Medieval England. Miles and Shelby find love where they least expect it. Roland learns a painful lesson about finding-and losing love. Arianne pays the price for a love so fierce it burns. And for the first -and last- time, Daniel and Luce will spend a night together like none other.

Lauren Kate's FALLEN IN LOVE is filled with love stories . . . the ones everyone has been waiting for.

True love never says goodbye . . .

Nayuleska's thoughts

I'm not into Valentine's day at all, but I loved learning more about Luce's protectors, seeing what made them tick and how they relate to what Luce & Daniel are going through. Shelby's softer side shines through when Miles loses his trademark cap. It was hilarious how much she kept reciting lip gloss as a reason to keep her charade going just so she and Miles can get home.

I saw a bit of Roland's past which isn't something he'd openly speak about. Cam is Cam! Luce and Daniel do feature throughout the novellas, and I'd forgotten how much I love Luce's steadfast resolution when she makes a decision about something and sticks with it in this 9/10 read. The romance side of things annoyed me a little, hence the grade.

You can find out more about the Fallen series on Lauren's website.
