Nayu's thoughts
I had a wonderful surprise when I opened the parcel containing all these books from a series that Bloomsbury publishes. Each story is chock full of fun action in full colour on every single page!!! Black and white images are great, but colour is the ultimate choice if ever there was one. The tales are simple in some respects, examining set topics like truth telling/owning up to wrongdoing, helping others, being yourself, using your imagination in play, but the emotions and backstories in them are ones that gave me as a reader a lot to think about.

I can easily see younger readers re-enacting the tales themselves, using glue and card to create rocket parts and helmets with boxes, or watching meerkat nature programs because they are fascinating creatures. I like the messages each tale conveys to the reader without being at all preachy. The colour helps make the stories even more memorable, with different styles thanks to the range of authors and illustrators used. It all fits with the image I have of Bloomsbury Children's books, which is a fun vibrant one full of life and inspiring.

These books are put into various levels for staged reading, which at a glance help readers find their reading level, giving a sense of achievement when they can go to the next level. I don't know much about the technical side of teaching people to read, but I do remember having similar books when I was learning at school, and I loved the books I read.

Do check these books out: I know pupils at my local school are going to love them and treasure them, not knowing that they are learning new words from the fun stories!

Here is how Bloomsbury describes these books:
Bloomsbury Young Readers are the perfect way to get children reading, with book-banded stories by brilliant authors like Julia Donaldson. They are packed with gorgeous colour illustrations and include inside cover notes to help adults reading with children, as well as ideas for activities related to the stories.
