Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham (Non-fiction, 10/10E)

December 2016, Virago, 224 pages, Hardback, Review copy,

Summary from Little, Brown
A funny, intimate memoir by Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, which recounts her experiences on Gilmore Girls - the first and second time - and shares stories about life, love, and working in Hollywood. Intimate, hilarious, and down-to earth, Talking As Fast As I Can is perfect for fans of Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler and Amy Schumer.

"This book contains some stories from my life: the awkward growing up years, the confusing dating years, the fulfilling working years, and what it was like to be asked to play one of my favorite characters again. You probably think I'm talking about my incredible achievement as Dolly in Hello, Dolly! as a Langley High School junior, a performance my dad called "you're so much taller than the other kids." But no! I'm talking about Lorelai Gilmore, who, back in 2008, I wasn't sure I'd ever see again. Also included: tales of living on a houseboat, meeting guys at awards shows, and that time I was asked to be a butt model. A hint: all three made me seasick."-Lauren Graham

Nayu's thoughts
While there's a higher percentage of her other acting jobs than I expected, Lauren gets into the joy of returning to a show she loves. It was interesting learning how she got into acting, the not so nice parts of starting out, finding her limits of what she will and won't do for her career. I know Lauren isn't Lorelai Gilmore, but they have similar personalities which made reading the book a dream. Lauren is full of beans and has a positive outlook on life. It was funny reading about various types of technology which I recognised from my childhood, making it a nostalgic read.

The Gilmore Girls parts were great. The entire cast and crew sound friendly, everyone was well looked after through shooting. I could have done with a list of names at the back as I don't know the characters by their actor's name, so had to do a bit of googling to make sure I understood who was being talked about. If you are wondering why Sookie has a tiny appearance in the Gilmore Girls special (Season 8) Lauren has all the details! It's amazing that Sookie made it for that short part.

It was great to see photos of Lauren as she grew up, as well as a few GG pics which made me smile. Stars Hollow feels real even knowing some behind the scenes info of how the recent special 4 episodes took place. In getting to know Lauren I feel like I got to know Lorelai a little bit, because Lauren put elements of herself in Lorelai. Definitely a great read for Gilmore Girls fans! & those who are interested in an actor's life.

I was part of the blog tour for the release of this book, where I discuss my favourite Lorelai moments (which mostly included Lane, Rory's best friend (Lorelai's daughter in the shower).
