Nayuleska's thoughts
I adore
Hello Kitty, and feel this book perfectly describes what a birthday can be like
for all the family in a way young readers will understand. The bright and large
illustrations were a delight to look at – I laughed when I saw Hello Kitty’s
father covered in glitter from the wrapping paper!
Activities
included preparations such as what invitations look like and choosing what to
wear, and the actual party itself including playing games and presents! I like
how the book makes it clear that Hello Kitty’s best ‘present’ was being with
all people she loves, a message that’s important to point out in what can be a
materialistic world. (I’m not climbing on my soap box, I promise ^o^)
I think
this book is ideal for readers who are having a birthday soon or attending a
birthday party, and might like to be prepared so they aren’t startled by things
being different which could make them anxious/cry/act up. Birthdays can be a
time of great joy and fun like Hello Kitty’s. There’s an extra interactive
element to the book where readers are asked questions about what they see, they
aren’t asked but could be asked to sing Happy Birthday, or shout out Happy
Birthday at the appropriate moments.
