Daisy and Ted's Awesome Adventures by Alex Naidoo (Children's, Picture book, 10/10E)

October 2016, National Deaf Children's Society, 34 pages, Paperback, Review copy
In this colourful tale where nothing limits the imagination, Daisy and Ted encounter pirates, wizards and princes on their travels through time and space. The story is really brought to life by bright and vibrant illustrations.

Nayu's thoughts
This is an utterly charming read about Daisy explaining how Ted can make it easier to communicate her. The way Daisy explains the various things that make it harder/easier to understand what people are saying is highly imaginative and made me smile. It's so much better than her just using a list. Ted is really understanding and is excited to play with Daisy. Again I was surprised by the last place they visit-it's weird and brilliant at the same time and is the only reason the story doesn't get top marks as I was a little freaked out by what I saw. I'd prefer fluffy versions of the objects in question!

This is an awesome adventure story, with vivd colours and creative creatures on every page. I may have read a book about a deaf child before, but there aren't many and Daisy's arrival clearly explains what helps her out, something that may differ from person to person. I hope there's another!

Another sweet read about someone who is seen by some to be 'different' can be seen in Be A Friend by Salina Yoon (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E)
