The Great Dragon Bake Off by Nicola O'Byrne (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E, short 'n' sweet review)

14th July 2016, Bloomsbury, 32 pages, Paperback, Review copy

Summary from Bloomsbury
Meet Flamie Oliver. To look at, Flamie is as terrifying as a dragon can get. But behind closed doors, Flamie is . . . a stupendously spectacular Star Baker! That's right – choux, rough, salty, sweet and puff – Flamie loves it all. In fact, he loves baking so much that his studies at the Ferocious Dragon Academy are starting to suffer, and there's a chance he won't graduate! Flamie's going to need a real showstopper to get out of this one.

On your marks, get set . . . BAKE!

Nayu's thoughts
An amusing tale filled with sweet treats! I'm not sure where to strt with this review. I was wowed by the illustrations, there's so many different reds, oranges, and yellows used for Flamie's body and fire, with detail of scales and loads of texture. Even though they were just pictures I wanted to eat almost everything that I saw!

It was sad how left out Flamie felt by not being like other dragons, but it's the adorable princess who helps him figure out how to show his skills so he can pass dragon school. What may go over younger readerz's heads is the use of names similar to some majorly famous bakers which will make older readers chuckle, sice the comments are rather realistic to who says them. Definitely a read if you love cake, need a laugh, and want to know that being different is completely normal!
