Book Summary
Thirteen-year-old Hailey spends far too much time following her older
brother, Lachlan, into trouble. When her entire world changes she thinks
at first it's something Lachlan has caused. But surely magic is beyond
him, even though he's always wanted to be a wizard.
Nayu's thoughts
This
is an incredibly sweet and funny magical tale. I love it so much
because family is at it's heart: Hailey and Lachlan aren't alone as their parents are in the same boat too (although they try and keep some normality). I was intrigued as to how Hailey got dragged into her brother's schemes, which somehow worked out after a whole load of
issues including him being turned into a frog (I can't forget the
scene where turns human again).
I love how sneaky Lachlan is, it's like he's taken a degree in doing what he wants; and how
Hailey is uneasy about his tricks, but she is the one who helps improve
their bizarre life while they aren't on Earth. How their parents
react to the situation made me laugh – their mother is quite a
person to reckon with! The ending was a happy surprise, and goes to
show that undergoing huge lifestyle changes are beneficial, that
there are ways to live which are simply different. I can't wait to
read more by Avril!
