Nayuleska's thoughts
I always find it a bit special reading books knowing that the author (Margaret Mahy) has died. Just think about it, she never got to see this in print, a book that will form part of her legacy.

And what a book! As can be seen on the cover, baby is adorable. She has great fun chucking food on the floor for her new 4 and 2 legged friends, whose movement is covered by her mother's drum playing. I love the concept of the mother being a drummer-it's something I haven't seen used in picture books as a hobby/occupation.

It was a pleasure to see how much the baby's other loved her by preparing a nutritious meal. I laughed a lot, especially when baby used two lettuce leaves to mime the speak no evil, see no evil, and hear no evil poses which older readers will appreciate. I did have to wonder for baby's safety as her highchair seemed to be on wheels...I guess the brakes were on! Baby got her banana treat and the animals got a snack too, making it a sweet read.
