Yeti and the Bird by Nadia Shireen (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E, semi-short 'n' sweet)

November 2013, Jonathan Cape, 32 pages, Paperback, Review copy

Yeti lives alone in a wintery landscape. Well, maybe not quite alone, but no one is brave enough to go near big, scary Yeti. No one apart from Bird, who gets lost on her way south, makes a special friend, and opens up a whole new world for our Yeti…

Nayuleska's thoughts
This is a book that made me giggle and go awww a lot. When it says how scary the yeti is for the animals it is clear to the reader that the yeti is totally misunderstood from the way he slopes off on his own. The bird, bless her, is a highly entertaining little soul who ignores popular opinion and follows her own pace in life which eventually teaches the scared creatures such an important lesson that Yeti has a happy ending. I wanted to snuggle against Yeti's warm looking self and stay bemused by bird's uniqueness forever.

For another misunderstood creature check out Wanda and the Alien by Sue Hendra (Children's, Picture book, 10E/10E)
