August 2013, Templar, 32 pages, Hardback, Review copy
Summary from Templar
Aesop's Fables are given a contemporary twist in this series of
retellings with bright and graphic artwork. Featuring ingenious die
cuts, you can lift the page to release the mouse from the lion's claws,
then, later, turn the page to make the mouse release the lion in return.
Nayuleska's thoughts
This book is cool! I honestly thought that
the cut out on every page would be in the same place, but it wasn't. Half the
time I didn't notice the cut-out until I began turning the page, which made me
smile and marvel at the clever placing of every illustration. The vibrant
colours are pleasing to look at, and the sense of texture is so strong that I
kept touching the parts that looked ridged/smooth and expected them to feel
that way despite it not being a touch and feel book. HThe story itself has a
cute twist half way, and is an enjoyable retelling of an Aesop fable which have
powerful morals in them.
Suggested read
Another read which seem based on a fable is Quick, Slow, Mango! by Anik McGrory (Children's, Picture book, 10/10E)
