What are YOU reading? #169

What are you reading on Monday? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where you post books completed last week and plans for upcoming books. Jump over to her blog and see who else is participating.

Books I've read

Max The Champion by Sean Stockdale, Alexandra Strick, Ros Asquith
Children's, Picture book
10/10 E
(Including children of all abilities makes this a fascinating read; my review...)

Penguin In Peril by Helen Hancocks
Children's, Picture book
10/10 E
(The poor penguin is hounded mercilessly by the three cats!)

No! by Tracey Corderoy and Tim Warnes
Children's, Picture book
Release Date:  July 2013
10/10 E
(As you can probably tell, "no" is a much loved word for this little fellow!)

The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
Young Adult, Thriller
10/10 E
(I hadn't thought it possible but this was more exciting than book one, 'The Name Of The Star'!)

Ivy Takes Care by Rosemary Wells & Jim LaMarche
Children's, 9 years +
10/10
(Ivy is a natural with the animals she takes care of...)

Magic Trix: Birthday Wishes by Sara Grant
Children's, 7 years +
10/10 E
(This is my favourite book so far in the series!)

Here Come the Creature, Poems by Wes Magee
Children's, Non-fiction
9/10
(A diverse range of poems covering several cultures and lots of scenarios...)

Guinea Pigs Online: Viking Victory by Jennifer Gray & Amanda Swift
Children's, 5 years +
10/10
(The guinea pigs need to save their nearby natural habitat - with a viking!)

Unlocking the Spell by E. D. Baker
Children's, 9 years +
9/10
(Full of fairy-tale characters you think you know, but the interesting twists prove you don't!)

Anime I've watched

AKB0048
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10 E
(This officially is on the same level of Winx, judging by the amount of times I rewatch it and how much I adore it.)

Shugo Chara:  Season 2
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10
(I'd forgotten how funny Lulu is ^o^)

Chihayafuru
Anime, Japanese version
10/10
(I really admire the memory skills involved in Karuta, and Chihaya's boundless energy as she sets up a Karuta club at school [or is it Karata?])

Bodacious Space Pirates
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10 E
(*happy sigh* Some anime are just awesome, like this one!)

Sword Art Online
Anime, Japanese version
8/10
(This is a bit dark in places so I'm not watching a lot of it each week. Quite funny though too!)

Neo Angelique Abyss
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10
(Methinks after the episode I've just seen, Angelique won't be allowed out on her own again!)

La Storia della Famiglia Arcana
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10
(*sniggers* Some of the family don't have a hope against those protecting the heiress...)

Yumeiro Patissiere
REWATCH! (so far) - Anime, Japanese version
10/10 E
(I'm determined to finish this series, which I haven't yet completed. As usual it makes me want cream cakes!)

Winx: Season 4
REWATCH! - Anime, French version
10/10 E
(They've got Believix powers now - whoohoo!)

Rozen Maiden
REWATCH! - Anime, English version
10/10
(I'm at a part I'm not so keen on, when Souseiki's sister turns up on the scene as it's a bit dark...)

H20: Just Add Water:  Season 1
REWATCH! - English version
10/10
(I love how Rikki finds something she enjoys at Emma's sleepover - poor Cleo has to hide in a sleeping bag when she accidentally gets wet and out comes her mermaid tale!)

Care Bears
Newest version:  Episode Cheer, There & Everywhere
Anime, English version
10/10
(Cheer Bear is adorable as she tries to help everyone else but doesn't leave enough time for her own work...)

Aria the Animation
REWATCH! - Anime, Japanese version
10/10 E
(The episode where Aika quits Himeya Company and joins Aria Company, much to Akari's horror...)

Craft
I've done a bit of crochet this week - it's hard to see how much I've done, but I have made progress on a few of the squares for my blanket.

Also, I've been sorting out various cards I've collected over the years, cut out the parts which interest me the most and hope to put together one or two scrapbooks with them. Sometimes I like just a border, or the often forgotten picture on the back of the card, or sometimes I like the whole thing!

  1. The Madness underneath looks good. And ANIME! :)The only one I know much about is Aria as I read the first volume of the manga series. New follower!
    here is my Monday post.

  2. Hi Jay - welcome to NRC! There's always lots of anime featured here - I'm used to enjoying atypical shows that aren't necessarily as popular as more mainstream ones (eg Naruto, Bleach etc). Hope you carry on enjoying my posts.
